Elizabeth's Wish
Better Dementia Care, Safer Hospitals
The Petition
Every person living with dementia deserves safe, dignified, and compassionate hospital care, but right now, too many families are experiencing avoidable harm, distress, and inconsistency.
My grandmother, Elizabeth, died because basic, accountable dementia care was missing. No family should ever face that.
This petition calls on the government to introduce mandatory dementia training for all hospital staff, stronger accountability standards, and a national framework to ensure consistent, safe dementia care in every NHS Trust. By signing, you’re helping drive the change needed to protect vulnerable people today, and everyone of us tomorrow.
Please come back later - The petition is being approved by the government.
Reform NHS Policy to provide safe, effective, dementia-friendly care in hospital
"People with dementia face avoidable harm in hospitals due to inconsistent training and poor accountability. We need mandatory dementia training for all staff and national standards to ensure safe, compassionate, and consistent care across every NHS hospital."
"People with dementia face high risks in hospital, falls, delirium, long stays, and avoidable harm, because staff training and care standards vary. I want the Government to make dementia training mandatory, strengthen accountability, and ensure every NHS hospital provides safe, consistent, compassionate care. There is currently no national governance, accountability, or monitoring requirement for dementia care, leaving families with little recourse when standards slip."
